The Extensy Populator for Jomsocial provides fake but realistic data for development or demonstration purposes.

It creates fully functional and distinct user Profiles, Groups and Events for Jomsocial. You just specify how many.

It can be helpful for anyone developing a website based on Jomsocial, or an extension for Jomsocial.

Though the created profiles have real and full functionality, they are not made to fool the public into believing they are real persons. So, they are not suitable for such a use in production sites. 

This is version 1.1.0 and it's stable. But the development is continued and future versions will expand the provided functionality. You may subscribe to our newsletter if you want to be kept updated.

Jomsocial Profiles :

  • Fully functional. They can be used to log in and act in every way a user registered by a real person would.

  • Male/female profiles with realistic names.

  • Creation dates, radomly chosen for each profile, not the same date for all. This is important for testing sortings by date, like the "latest users".

  • Avatar and cover images, automatically created. You don't have to provide images. These images bear the name of each user so they are distinct.

  • Custom profile types with custom fileds. They are automatically detected. The created users are assigned to one of the profile types with equal probability.

 

Jomsocial Groups :

  • Fully functional. They can be used to act in every way a group would.

  • Group creators, randomly chosen from the users Populator has already created. Realism : some users may have created more than one group, while some others none.

  • Creation dates, radomly chosen for each group, but greater than the creation date of the user who created the group. So we get a realistic simulation. This is important for testing sortings by date.

  • Avatar and cover images, automatically created. You don't have to provide images. These images bear the name of the group so they are distinct.

 

Jomsocial Events :

  • Fully functional. They can be used to act in every way an event would.

  • User and Group created events. You can create both kinds.

  • Recurring events, with varying periods (days, weeks, months).
  • Event creators, randomly chosen from the users and groups Populator has already created. Consistency : if an event is a group event, then its administrator is the group creator. Realism : some users may have created more than one group, while some others none.

  • Creation dates, radomly chosen for each event, but greater than the creation date of the user or the group for whom it was created resulting to a realistic simulation. This is important for testing sortings by date.

  • Avatar and cover images, automatically created. You don't have to provide images. These images bear the name of the event so they are distinct. Recurring events get avatar and cover images for all of their instances.

 

  • Does not work without Jomsocial installed.

  • Has been tested with Jomsocial versions 4.1.5 through 4.1.7 on Joomla 3.4.8, Jomsocial versions 4.2 through 4.2.5 on Joomla 3.6.2 and Jomsocial versions 4.3 through 4.3.3 on Joomla 3.6.5.

  • Older Joomla versions : Should not be older than 3.x, but not really special ties to Joomla. The limiting factor is Jomsocial.

  • Older Jomsocial versions : Doesn't work with versions earlier than 3.2.

When entering a section, like Groups, you are informed about the version of the Jomsocial library used and how many objects have already been created by Populator. Creating fully functional Groups : Just type a number and press the button.     Groups created by Populator listed in Jomsocial administration.     Groups created by Populator are fully functional and can be edited like any Jomsocial Group.

Back end : Event creation.

Creating fully functional user Events : Just type a number and press the button. Creating fully functional user Events : The Events have been created and you get a briefing list. Creating fully functional recurring group Events : Just type a number and press the button. Creating fully functional recurring Events : In this case, five instances of a recurring group Event have been created and you get a briefing list. User Events created by Populator listed in Jomsocial administration. Events created by Populator are fully functional and can be edited like any Jomsocial Event.
